EV Battery Emulator

Unlock the Potential of Second-Life EV Batteries

Dala's EV Battery Emulator is a powerful interface designed to enable the safe integration of electric vehicle battery packs with compatible battery inverters and energy storage systems. By emulating the communication expected by the inverter, the emulator allows a wide range of OEM EV battery packs to be repurposed for residential, commercial and off-grid energy storage applications.

It also enables our custom BMS integrated packs to link with many commercially available inverters.

At DR+VE, we supply and integrate Dala's Battery Emulator as part of our complete second-life battery storage solutions, helping customers unlock the value of high-quality EV batteries that would otherwise remain unused.

What is a Battery Emulator?

Modern electric vehicle batteries communicate continuously with the vehicle using the CAN (Controller Area Network) bus. When these batteries are removed from the vehicle, most battery inverters cannot communicate directly with the original Battery Management System (BMS).

Dala's Battery Emulator bridges this communication gap by presenting the correct battery information to supported inverters, allowing them to operate with compatible EV battery packs while maintaining safe charging and discharging behaviour.

This makes it possible to build reliable, high-capacity energy storage systems using proven automotive battery technology.

Frequently asked questions

Does the emulator replace the battery's original BMS?

No. The original Battery Management System remains responsible for monitoring and protecting the battery. The emulator provides the communication required for compatible inverters to interact with the battery system.

Can I use any inverter?

The emulator is designed for use with supported inverter models. Contact us to discuss compatibility with your chosen inverter before purchasing.

Is this suitable for DIY installations?

The emulator is popular within the DIY energy storage community, but we recommend that all high-voltage battery systems are designed and installed by competent persons with appropriate knowledge and experience.
